Marvelous Matisse

Matisse inspired still life

The art work produced at the Matisse holiday class really was marvellous - I think Matisse would have been very impressed by the creations! We looked at Matisse's use of colour and pattern in his still life's and then got creating. We used acrylic paint on canvas for the background. I then put a selection on fruits on the tables for the children to draw in oil pastels on paper and then cut and stick them to the canvas. I love the bright colours used which Matisse was famous for. If you would like a book for your children on Matisse I recommend Matisse king of colour by Laurence Anholt. It's a great story, informative and has beautiful illustrations, we took a look at this at the start of our class.
